This piece is inspired by one of the moments in Queen of Shadows that I had wanted to paint for such a long time - Aelin and Rowan finally reunited in Rifthold.

There is something about this scene that feels especially emotional to me. After everything Aelin has been carrying alone, Rowan’s arrival feels like that moment when she can finally allow herself to soften. No grand declarations, no battle or spectacle - just the relief of seeing the person she has missed and being held by him again.

I wanted the cold, moonlit streets of Rifthold to surround them while keeping Aelin and Rowan at the heart of the painting - a small moment of warmth and safety in the middle of everything still waiting for them.
